Collection: mucous membranes

In addition to acting as a protective barrier, mucous membranes also serve to transport molecules. They protect organs from dehydration and are important for the absorption of nutrients. The structure of the mucous membrane depends on the function of the respective organ.

Mucous membranes are naturally colonised by many bacteria and other microorganisms. This colonisation is indispensable for an intact mucosal function. Poor colonisation, chronic stress or various pollutants can impair the function of the mucous membranes. In order to keep your mucous membranes healthy and to strengthen their function, a balanced diet, drinking sufficient water and an optimal supply of micronutrients are particularly important.  Vitamin A, biotin (vitamin B7), niacin (vitamin B3) and riboflavin (vitamin B2) in particular contribute to the maintenance of healthy mucous membranes.
