MSM, short for methylsulfonylmethane, is a sulfur compound and an essential mineral. MSM serves as a natural source of bioavailable sulfur, which performs many important functions in the body.
Sulfur is an integral component of numerous enzymes and thus involved in many metabolic processes. Sulfur plays an essential role in the formation of sulfur-containing amino acids, such as methionine and cysteine, as well as in the production of the body's own antioxidant glutathione.
